We participated for the second time in the soccer tournament organized by Peak 4. On Friday June 23rd we headed to the soccer fields nearby the office to give everything we had against other company teams in 5 against 5 matches. The tournament was held as a fundraiser for 3 different charity organizations – Right To Play, Only Friends and Stichting Boemerang – committed to letting children play and do sports in developing countries, having a disability, or in a camp week for children who cannot go on holiday.
Luckily, the weather was fine, dry and not as hot as earlier that week. We started off with a complete team already for the warming up on the small fields with boarding. Passes using the border and back to the keeper were practiced and we even got reinforcements during the competition from other colleagues finishing up work early, so all elements were in place for a nice tournament.
Our team offered a lot of resistance against the other teams and even came to score a couple of times. Especially with Keeper Kevin in the goal and Running Ron in the field and the effort of the rest of the team as well, we almost managed to tie a game, if it wasn’t for an unfair penalty scored by our opponent. But it also became clear that the strength of Finaps is more within developing applications. Even the cheering and support of all our colleagues could not let us win our final. We did have much fun though, and celebrated our tireless efforts with some drinks and food, together with the other teams on the roof terrace of the soccer club.
With some salad, pizza and a beer we ended the sportive afternoon and started the weekend with colleagues together. This nice event of sports and fun was definitely worth repeating, so hopefully we can join the tournament again next year!
