Winners of
Mendix World 2014 Hackathon

The Mendix World 2014 Hackathon brought together students and professionals competing to deliver an application to the children's aid organization Terre des Hommes. After 24-hours of development, the public voted to choose the winners.

Terre des Hommes has some seventeen satellite offices around the globe, and ten teams competed to deliver a solution that would address a particular use-case. One was to provide donors with greater transparency into what is actually done with their significant annual donations. Another use-case was to make it easier for Terre des Hommes and its local partners to share data with each other.

Finaps chose to develop an application that would allow the satellite offices to share information with the head office. However, instead of taking the perspective of the Terre des Hommes headquarters, the focus would be on the users working from those satellite offices, which made it possible to know what kinds of skills and resources were available in each region.

By using the app these offices were able show the actual impact of each donation by reporting on what it was used for.

The audience were thoroughly impressed and by public vote Finaps were chosen as the winners of the Professional Category in the Mendix World 2014 Hackathon. Finaps used our business acumen and skill with Mendix to level the playing field, and we would also go on to develop the actual portal for Terre des Hommes.
