Next year’s summer is about sports. And just like our fellow sports-loving countrymen and –women, Finaps is looking forward to next year’s Olympics in Brazil. This is reinforced by the fact that another hugely popular event – Euro 2016 – will likely have to make do without our national team unless a miracle will take place. We also know by now that Tom Dumoulin will not repeat Joop Zoetemelk’s heroic 1979/1980 Vuelta/Tour de France victory, so the Olympics might be the only event where we can all cheer to our national heroes of sports.
With this perspective, we were very pleased when Peak4 asked us to collaborate with them on one of their latest projects. Peak4 focusses on designing and facilitating tailor-made program’s that support individuals, teams and organizations in achieving sports-related goals. The project is called “Studio Rio”, a newsfeed website where the focus will be on all Dutch Olympic participants, including those who participate in less popular sports. The content will be made by both professionals and the athletes themselves.
Beginning of September, Finaps released the 1.0 version of the website created in Drupal. Currently, it is possible to book accommodation during the Olympics in Rio in one of Peak4’s rooms or dorms where you’ll be treated with some exclusive advantages during your stay. Floris Evers – partner at Peak4 and silver medalist in Hockey during the Olympics of 2004 and 2012 – has a positive feel about the first weeks since the website is up and running. “It’s going great and registrations are stacking up! We’re especially pleased with the mixture of different people booking with us. Family of contending athletes, entrepreneurs, athletes that won medals in earlier Olympic editions and regular families who want to enjoy the games in Rio: we feel that this combination of both young and elderly will help us create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Due to the pace of the registrations, I can only advice those who are interested to register fast. “
We asked Floris what he hopes to accomplish with the Studio Rio project. “First of all, we want to provide our visitors an extraordinary and unique experience during the games. Second, it is our intention to become the number one media platform during the Olympics. We strive to enable all of us who will stay in the Netherlands to experience the Olympics at its best. Prior to the Games themselves, we’ll be following a handful of our Dutch athletes and will show how they prepare for the biggest sports event in the world. During the Games we’ll be having a daily broadcast from within the Holland Heineken House, where we’ll welcome athletes, their families and public figures to our table. Finally, we’ll be creating clips to show everyone what is going on behind the scenes of the Olympics. At Peak4 we’re all very excited and looking forward to creating a huge party during the summer of 2016 in Rio!”
At Finaps, we can’t wait either. During the coming months, we’ll be working on the website’s next version together with Peak4. Next to it being an inspiring project, it should enable us to unleash our creativity using the Drupal platform. We hope we’ll be making a positive contribution to next year’s summer of sports!
